On the 26th June a decision was to be arrived at and then farewell home newspapers... English have no respect for anyone. How they have
cheated! We have, for example, had to charter a small steamer simply for fetching the post. It is
part of my duty to fetch the post and I steam out
at 1 or 2 o'clock at night, as the Rail Steamer
always arrives in the morning, with one officer
of the Shipping Company but otherwise only Chinese.
The post is taker over in the open sea in accordance
with arrangements with the American Shipping Company. These journeys are, of course, very expensive
but you see that we spare no cost and trouble to
keep up our connection with home. The Shipping
Company up to the present have shown themselves
very amiable but as a general rule the Americans
can only be described as cobblers, and cowardly
dogs who make a loud noise and nothing else and
the murderers of our brave soldiers. If it were
not for their deliveries of munitions the War
would have been over long ago. Although we are
not free from the reproach that in the Russian-
Japanese War we supplied the Russians as well as
the Japs with munitions the position is quite
different to-day. The Americans state that they would
be only too glad to supply us with munitions if they could but unfortunately the English take
